There are some many things to see and do in Glasgow. But you may not know about lots of the hidden treasures that there are to discover across the city. Glasgow is full of surprises and we would like to uncover some of our favourite hidden gems to visit on a city break to Glasgow.

1. Britannia Panopticon Music Hall
Britannia Panopticon is the World’s oldest surviving music hall. The Britannia opened in 1857 to entertain the workers in the industrial capital of the world. 1,500 people flocked in for every show up to six shows a day. Over the years all the greats of the Scottish and London music hall stage appeared there including Dan Leno, Harry Champion, Charles Coburn, Marie Loftus, Vesta Tilley, Ella Shields, Jack Buchanan, Harry Lauder, Archie Leech (Cary Grant) and most famously, Stan Laurel who made his debut there in 1906. The 1920’s stage has been stored and they have preserved the existing 1857 platform which lies underneath. They are now planning to restore the balcony front. We think Britannia Panopticon is a real hidden gem and a step back in time to the Victorian city.

2. Glickman’s Confectionary
Glickman’s Confectionery, established in 1903, is the oldest sweetie shop in the heart of Glasgow. The shop offers all their local customers and tourists the opportunity to purchase confectionery at discounted prices. With old favourites such as Macaroon Cake, Candy Balls, Lucky Tatties, Soor Plooms and with endless jars filled with mouth-watering delights in every colour of the rainbow…Who could resist taking their taste buds on a trip down memory lane!

3. The view from Queen’s Park
For those who like to go walking or sightseeing you will be taken away by the panoramic view at the top of Queen’s Park. Queen’s park is situated on the south side of the city, just 2 ½ miles from the city centre. Why not grab an artisan coffee from one of the many independent coffee shops and take on the hill towards the flagpole to discover one of the city’s finest viewpoints. You can look out for miles and see from all compass points where city meets country. We think this spectacular view is definitely one of Glasgow’s hidden gems!
4. The Hidden Lane Teamroom
The Hidden Lane Tearoom is found tucked away in a sunny corner of the Hidden Lane, officially known as Argyle Court. The multi-coloured, unique studio is home to crafts people, musicians and small business people and has become a popular attraction for the creative community. It is located off the beaten track but we think the location has become part of the charm, a real hidden gem! They offer a varied menu from pancakes for breakfast, homemade soups, sandwiches and salads for lunch, to luxurious afternoon tea, voted second best in the country in Peter Irvine’s highly acclaimed ‘Scotland the best.’ We love their range of homemade cakes especially their classic Victoria sponge and secret recipe scones.
