From today, Thursday 1st June 2023 any vehicle entering Glasgow City Centre’s Low Emission Zone will need to meet certain emission standards or will face a penalty.
Glasgow’s LEZ will operate continuously all year round. It covers an area of the city centre bounded by the M8 motorway to the north and west, the River Clyde to the south and Saltmarket/High Street to the east.
Petrol cars and vans will need to have engines at the Euro 4 standard, which generally applies to vehicles registered after 2006.
Diesel-powered cars and vans will need to be at the Euro 6 standard, mainly applying to vehicles registered after September 2015.
From 1st June 2023 if a non-compliant vehicle is detected within Glasgow City Centre’s LEZ, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) will be issued to the registered keeper of that vehicle. Penalties will typically be set at £60, halved to £30 if paid early.
If you’re thinking of taking your car to Glasgow make sure it complies with the LEZ requirements.
