Our Top 5 ways to raise money for school trips…

by Hannon Coach

1. Guess the amount

Fill a large jar with a carefully counted number of sweets. People then try
to guess how many sweets are in the jar. At the end of the event the
nearest guesser wins either the jar itself or another prize. (Tip: It’s
best to have a prize that can be shared / split
in the event of a tie!)
This fundraiser is so simple and easy to do, but, can bring in a nice amount
of money. It is also easy for children to take part in or organise.

2. Penny Wars
This is a twist on simply collecting spare change, “Penny Wars” are a
popular fundraiser in North America. Teams compete to see who can fill
their jar with the most pennies. The team with the most pennies wins.
Simple!
However, the trick is to sabotage the jars of your rivals. This is done by
adding coins (and banknotes) other than pennies to their jars which score
negatively. (Tip: Run your Penny Wars over the
course of a week. with a clear deadline of when
the count will take place!!)

3. Sponsored walk, family fun run, etc
Tried and tested. Figure out when you want to hold the event. Pick a
venue that’s convenient for people. Let people know about it. Hand out
sponsorship forms. Recruit volunteers to help on the day. Simple! (Tip:
The best part of a fun run or sponsored walk
is that you can get wacky with it. Pick a fun
theme and name for the event – if it’s a fun run
throw in a few obstacles !!)

4. Non-uniform day for year group
Another stalwart. Pick your date. Send a note home to let parents and
guardians know about it. Collect the money. (Tip 1: Collect the
money early in the day before the pupils have a
chance to spend it on lunch!!!)
(Tip 2: Run on a Friday or Monday to cut down on
washes!!!)

5. Cake sale
Another stalwart. Pick your date. Send a note home to let parents and
guardians know about it. Collect the money. (Tip: Find a home
for the left overs – contact your local food
kitchen, shelter, or nursing home to see
whether they would like the unsold goodies.!!!)
(Follow best practice for your School regarding allergies)

. . . Above all, make sure it’s fun!!!
